Year 9 Enrolments, your son will need to select his preferred course options (Years 10 - 13 - we will confirm these at a later date). All Year 9 and 10 students will be placed in a core class for their compulsory subjects (English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, Health and Physical Education).

Tauranga Boys’ College takes pride in creating and maintaining a positive and safe learning environment. As a school we expect high standards of behaviour and conduct. We expect all students to follow the Uniform Policy, wearing the school uniform correctly and with pride.
Students and parents need to understand that the following behaviours will not be tolerated:
• Anti-social behaviour - fighting, intimidation and bullying. This includes causing physical, verbal or emotional harm.

Parental/Caregiver Commitment Agreement *

I authorise the College to obtain further information regarding our son from his previous school(s), and to communicate it as necessary.  Furthermore, information gathered by Tauranga Boys' College can be shared to any future schools, supporting agencies and organisations such as: The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social Development, purposes of the Tauranga Boys' College Board of Trustees, Tauranga Boys' College Old Boys' Association, NZ Qualifications Authority (NZQA), Special Education Services (SES), statistical and / or research purposes.

I acknowledge that at times the College may need to take rapid action for our son's welfare without recourse to us.

As the parent, legal guardian or caregiver of the student enrolling, I grant permission for my son to access the internet. I understand that some material on the internet may be objectional, but I accept responsibility for providing guidance regarding internet use, setting standards for my son to follow when selecting, sharing or exploring information and media. 

I give my approval for the student enrolled to participate in off-site programmes of learning that are deemed low risk and part of the curriculum by the Principal or his Proxy. I understand that the school will identify any foreseeable risks or hazards relating to this type of activity and implement correct management procedures to elminate, isolate or minimise those hazards.  I know that I am able to ask any questions or the school about the activity of my child will be involved in, to gain a better understanding of the risks involved.

I consent to the publication of information and images featuring my son and work created by my son; examples of such publications include, but are not limited to the school website, newsletters, newspapers, magazines, digital publications, marketing material for the 
school and television programmes about the school.

Usual Place of Residence Agreement *

The address given at the time of application for enrolment must be the student’s usual place of residence when the school is open for instruction. The Ministry of Education has advised that parents should be warned of the possible consequences of deliberately attempting to gain unfair priority in enrolment by knowingly giving a false address or making an in zone arrangement which they intend to be only temporary, for example:
• Residing in zone on a short term basis (less than one year)
• Arranging temporary board in zone with a relative or family friend
• Using the in zone address of a relative or friend as an “address of convenience”

If the Tauranga Boys’ College Board of Trustees learns that a student is no longer living at the in zone address given at the time of application for enrolment, and believes that a temporary in zone residence has been used for the purpose of unfairly gaining priority in enrolment, then the Board will review the enrolment and possibly annul the enrolment. This course of action is provided under Section 11(OA) of the Education Act 1989. Tauranga Boys’ College may actively collect information to ensure that enrolment data provided is accurate.

BYOD Agreement *

All students are required to bring a device to school. A student-owned internet capable device is now an important part of a student's toolkit, giving him access to resources and enabling him to extend, communicate and share his learning in a way that best prepares him for the future. Alongside online platforms, there is still a place for books, paper and pen, so some stationery will still be required. Please note – A cell phone is not a permitted learning device.

The recommended device is a Chromebook, however, you may choose another device, provided it can hold charge for up to six hours, and connect to the internet. It must also have the latest version of Google Chrome installed. 

Alongside regular curriculum delivery, every Year 9 boy will engage in learning about using the internet safely and understanding his responsibilities as a cyber citizen. This programme works alongside our ‘Good Man’ values. Use of his device through our school network is monitored and protected by Network for Learning (N4L), a service with full web filtering, providing a safer online environment.

Student Device Care and Security
• Devices should be protected by a username and password. This should not be disclosed to other students.
• Always store the laptops in a protective bag. Do not store anything else inside the laptop bag (eg chargers, papers).
• Avoid storing your device at the bottom of your school bag – pressure from books can damage the screen and hinges. Do not overfill your school bag.
• Never lift the laptop by the screen. This will stress the hinge mechanism, which also carries the data and power supply to the screen.
• Treat your device as you do other valuables and never leave your device in unsupervised areas during the school day.
• The security of a student-owned device is the responsibility of the student. Devices should be engraved or labelled with the student’s name.
• Most theft or damage will be covered by your existing insurance home contents policy. Please check with your insurance provider that this is the case. The owner of the device is responsible for insurance cover.

Details are collected at the time of enrolment and during the student’s time at school so that the school can contact the parent or student as necessary and may also be passed on to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Development as required.
